It’s Day 19 of my Healthy Holidays the PK Way series, and I hope you’ve been enjoying all of the tasty food and drink I’ve been posting these last few weeks. Today’s recipe stars poached pears, a sweet spoonful of tender flesh in a pool of fragrant wine sauce. The pears are wonderful all on their own, but a simple presentation including vanilla-scented freshly whipped cream, a gorgeous piece of blue cheese, or a drizzle of dark chocolate are all beautiful accoutrements. Or, to take things up a notch, serve with goat cheese cream and candied pistachios, as I did on The Taste. I have made them many times over the years, and they’re always a big hit, however they’re plated.

This month I’m sharing my “best of” recipes and tips to help you celebrate the holidays healthfully and happily. This is my nineteenth post in the series. The menu features all of the fare that is a regular part of Cooking & Eating the PK Way but is special enough for a holiday table. My philosophy is built upon the fundamentals of nutrition as shown in Harvard’s Healthy Eating Plate, yet the food-loving PK Way features my flair for global flavors—and a tantalizing taste of moderation. Because healthy food shouldn’t suck.
